Art 2019

I started with lots of planning around many ideas and thought that I could look more in-depth into Maori culture, I began writing down several artists and looked at the main things they focused on, it was hard to find a particular artist that fit with my theme/WHY I wanted to use the Maori culture idea as I feel that the Maori culture is slowly fading away, as people no longer make the effort to promote the Maori culture and get more children involved.  This is a sad thought as your own culture is slowly pushed to the side, for me it's hard to find out about my culture and where I come from as in 2017 I lost my Grandad and unfortunately took all of our cultural ways with him, making this a not only difficult subject to work on but difficult to work on something you don't know a lot about. My last year of art I have decided to challenge myself and take two lots of art, being photography and painting, this year, in particular, I wanted to look more closely about the Maori culture, and the change we have experienced over the last decade or so, in my opinion, different people have different beliefs when it comes to Maori culture, some people, for example, the older generation look at us younger generation and think we are disrespecting our culture. I have had many ideas of what I wanted to do this year and considered taking portrait photos of people dressed up using a Korowai, feathers and a variety of greenstones, However, I had a bit of a setback and no longer wanted to continue with my original idea, as in myself I felt this wasn't good enough, and I didn't want to mess it up and make my culture look bad, I have recently come to the conclusion that I don't care about what others think and I shouldn't listen to the ones constantly putting my ideas down, so I have decided to go ahead with my ideas and see where it takes me next.

This year in painting I have decided to base my why/theme around family, family, to me is everything and I love how a photo can capture such precious moments. when us three siblings were younger there was never a dull moment and the adults were never shy to get the cameras out and get sneaky photos of us, our grandad had an old school video camera that he would take everywhere he went, we have so many home videoes, although I was too young it was funny to see what kids do when they know there is a camera around. Most of the videos contain my brother crying and complaining about this and that but they also capture beautiful memories from our childhood. My series of work is based on my childhood and growing up. I have almost finished my first series of work which is pretty much based around my mum and dad getting married and having kids, mum and dad always provided us with everything we need in life and ensured that we were always in a safe and secure environment, I look up to my parents in a big way and I am forever grateful for their love an support through everything. all my painting this year will be around my family and our lives so far, together. There are many photos that capture very certain moments in our life, that instantly make you look at it and remember that particular moment in time.

However, I have now come to a standstill as I am unsure about what to do for painting this seems to be an ongoing problem for me that honestly stresses me out on a daily, for me its the thought of not being good enough and my work not being up to the standard its suppose to, I want my board this year to be the best one I have done however achieving this seems like an uphill losing battle, I struggle to find my feet and struggle to keep my head above water as it seems like I'm drowning. The thought of doing 2 boards which consist of 6 panels all up freaks me out and I start to doubt my ability to achieve what I know in my head is achievable, so at the moment I currently have no plans on what I'm doing for painting and the stress feels like it is building up massively, similar to photography I feel like I'm getting nowhere with the Kapa Haka uniforms still in the back rooms and unable to access makes it hard to complete work and feel confident in finishing my board in time, to ensure its up to a good standard. Right now I see no potential progress happening it feels that I'm taking steps back rather than moving forward, I think I have taken on to much and will not be able to reach my goal of finishing two boards and a very high level. I want to do incredibly well in art this year but due to falling behind because of my own stupid self, I have let my workload get too much to handle, and now I'm left trying to resurface myself and start all over again, with a term already gone I am already pushing my boundaries

However, I have now bounced back and have now started printmaking as I found it easier than painting, due to my set back, I have fallen a little behind catching up is difficult but I am slowly making progress with the help of Mrs. Clemence, as for my photography we have still been unable to access the kapa haka uniforms, and has left me thinking I'm going to have to restart my board all over again, and with having little to zero ideas of how I'm going to get this board done, leaves me a little frustrated. I wanted to base my board around my culture but without all of the materials, it makes it almost impossible to complete. I have now come to the realisation that I will probably not finish either of my boards which leaves me with 24 credits less, this is super frustrating as I know what I am capable but I just don't have any good ideas. These last couple of weeks have been absolute hell and I feel like I'm failing at every possible thing. I feel like the whole world just crumbles underneath your feet without you even realising until you are just drowning in your own failure. Art is super difficult and two boards seem to be sending me over the edge these credits are crucial but my stress levels are through the roof, I have no good ideas, no skills and feel like I'm the only one struggling. I'm one of the only ones in my class that has absolutely nothing on either of my boards which makes me feel even worse and makes me feel like more of a failure than I already am. ART THIS YEAR WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME.

So other than previous post I have actually managed to come up with and idea for painting and photography that I have surprisingly stuck with, even though I have only come up with these ideas just recently with the due date creeping up really quickly, after many long debates and disagreements I finally feel like i am achieving something. In painting I have been working really hard to complete and series of linocuts that relate to woman and their body image, what I was trying to do is create a series of work that explains the harsh comments woman get about their bodies, and that it doesn't matter your size, colour or looks everyone is beautiful in their own way, "Your weight doesn't define your worth."

Whereas with photography it took me almost three terms to come up with an idea that I was willing to stick with, I decided to use Caite's little sister as my model creating amazing photos of her simply playing on the playground and just having fun, I mean what kid doesn't love playing inn the playground. Maddie is very photogenic so this was perfect, most of the photos I have taken are like I said of her having fun and playing around, other photos are just really simple photographs of her shoes and hands on some of the obstacles of the playground. For the first photoshoot we were able to collect over 50 photo easy. The screenshot provided is panel 1 completed.

1/3/18 - Rinko Kawauchi

Image result for rinko kawauchi

Rinko Kawauchi is a Japanese photographer and became interested in photography when she was staying at college, for several years she worked in advertising before beginning a career as a fine art photographer and ever since she has made her way up and has won many prizes due to he outstanding work. In 2001 she released 3 photography book Utatane, Hanabi and Kanako and since then has had major exhibitions in Paris, London. She explains that her photos are supposed to give you the feeling of looking in on the moment that is about to happen. "I want imagination in the photographs I take it's like a prologue, you wonder what's going on and feel something is going to happen." Kawauchi's photographs capture ordinary moments with a profound almost hallucinatory perspective. Kawauchi currently live’s and works in Tokyo, Japan, and her work is held in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of modern art. I have chosen this particular artist as the object itself is very dominant with the background being blurred making the object stand out in a tremendous way, the eye, in particular, it shows not only the eye but the little strands of her hair the camera has focused on these which creates an overall unique effect.

6/3/18
On the way back from a 4 hour trip on a fishing charter, we were asked to collect the cray pots as it was their final trip. throughout the many crayfish we collected we also found a carpet shark, In this photograph, the main focus is the shark, however, it has captured the glove of the fisherman, the blurred background is very eye-catching as you can see the cray pot.  I thought this was a perfect opportunity to get my camera out, by just using the landscape mode and natural light

In this photo I have just focused on the phone nothing else, creating a spectacular blurred  background using the Landscape mode and the lighting from in the room, Summer was not shy of the camera making it easy for me to work with, she often loves phones and taking pictures of herself at this time she was trying to figure out how to unlock the phone, however getting super frustrated at the same time. This photograph is very interesting as the focus is on the phone and her hand, the effect of the background really stands out and attracts the viewer. However, after a few good photos, she got bored and was no longer interested in taking photos

Whereas with this photo I have concentrated on getting just the end of the blossoming flowers, this creates a very unfocused picture making the photo pop out at you and make you feel like your in the 'moment' by just using natural light and portrait mode, It had been halfway through spring last year, and it was that time of the year where all the flowers start to bloom, we had gone for a visit to my grandparents house and they have the most beautiful flowers around there house and was a perfect moment to take a few photos. I love how the unfocused background creates a more amazing overall effect

7/4/18
I have recently started making a pinhole camera for my art history assessment as my main focus involves using the cameras and learning new skills throughout the process.

Equipment

Shoe Box
Black paint
Tin foil
Black tape
Craft knife
Glue stick

1. Firstly I started painting the inside and the outside of the shoe box black to stop as much light as possible getting in. (make sure the shoe box has a lid for easy access)

2. Use the black tape to cover any place where the light can get it as this can affect the end results.

3. Use the craft knife to cut a small but decent square into the box.

4. Tear some tinfoil into squares the same size and glue 3-5 sheets together to make it thicker.

5.  Then simply place the glued pieces to the inside of the box where you cut the hole.

8/5/18 - Barbie transformation- at first I just want to try to do something different but so it also connects back to my work in some way.

Equipment

Barbie doll (with a bigger face would be easier to work with)
Nail polish or other strong chemicals
scissors
White paint
clear spray paint

1. firstly you want to cut the hair to your preferred length
2. next you want to remove all of the detail on the barbie dolls face with some very strong chemicals, this gives us a clean base to start with
3. now you want to remove the head as we don't want to get all the extra paint etc on the body of the barbie

25/6/18

So far I have been taking a variety of photographs of some old school cameras I received from my grandfather a few weeks ago, in these photographs, I have tried to make it look like you are 'In the Moment,' just like the photographs taken by Rinko Kawauchi. I really love how the pictures I have taken almost looked 3D as the background is almost completely blurry making the cameras pop out, having a more dramatic look to the final result

The middle camera is one of mine but the other two are more modern looking cameras I like this one because of the New and Old look it has mixing the both of them together to capture an outstanding photograph

The same as the photo below but just from another angle capturing that other camera that wasn't shown much as in this one, However to me the combination between new and old works perfectly in these photographs

After taking a variety of photographs I knew that eventually, Mrs. Clemence would ask to Edit them on the computer. Although I hated using the computers I pushed myself to try new things, after just editing one I started to get the hang of it and enjoy breaking the pictures down and making it look more eye-catching. At first, I didn't like the idea of ruining these good images, but after using all the tools on the computer I started to like how the photographs were starting to look a lot better than before.

22/8/18

So recently I have been working on editing all my photos so I can then put them on my L2 portfolio at the end of term 3. Editing photo's on the computer is for sure not my thing but I had no choice as that was what I was asked to do by Mr.s Clemence, I started taking a series of photos that have a very similar layout to the rest.

After taking these photographs I started to load them on to the MacBooks ready to edit however this was a slow start as I didn't like using the computers, first I had to download them to the computer and then move them to a folder that wouldn't get lost.

Then I moved these pictures to photoshop and the began editing them, this was a difficult task as I had to learn how to use all the different tools in order to create photographs like the one below. most of the first photos looked like the one above but as I started playing with the tools I started to develop new skills and produce pictures like the one next to the text.

However, with these photographs, I love how the different color compositions work incredibly well to create these pictures and help enhance the quality of these photographs. However after all of the complaining about the computers and the task that had to be done I am amazed at the outcome and love how my portfolio is coming along.

6/9/18

Over the past 2 weeks, I have been working on the computers to enhance the quality and color in photographs, to try and capture the viewer's attention. With these following photographs, I have tried to zoom in on the most eye capturing part, after doing it four times I printed them and put them in a line, and I actually really liked how it looks the color is so dramatic and gets your attention straight away

This is the first one as you can see there is a range of different colors that work incredibly well to capture your eye, In my opinion, I believe that the closer camera with the yellow is the most eye-catching.

This is the last one, you can see that there is a dramatic change in quality in this one and more in-depth with the color compositions, I have tried to do this to as many photographs as possible but still, find it hard to remember all the instructions.

After editing and cropping these photograph I was asked to come up with a plan for the week that I would go by, which on my first day I finished the photographs above and the second day accessing my board meaning layout, placing and sizing, however on the third day I started researching about Rothko and famous painter, in the hope to find some ideas for my work and the last day doing my favourite thing my blog. Below is my finished panel 1 board

25/9/18
In the past couple of weeks, I have been working on the macs, I then researched Mark Rothko, an American painter, his paintings are simple but effective, I have tried to use the photographs I have already edited and used the idea of Rothko's paintings to create my own images, in Rothko's paintings the edges of them are rough and jagged. So Mrs. Clemence came up with the idea to rip the photograph I had printed and tried the different colors

11/10/18

Next, I started working on how to improve those pictures and make them look more out there, I have done this by using photoshop and using a variety of tools to help me out along the way including brightness, contrast, and exposure, I have done this by taking more photographs of the cameras but using cellophane to slightly cover the lens and give a more dramatic look after taking these pictures it was time to edit them again on photoshop this required only turning up the brightness and using other tools and adjustments to make the final look more dramatic and interesting, in most of the photographs they are blurry some, however, some don't even look like cameras but Mrs. Clemence think it looks good and I should keep working on it

However next is the layout of Panel two and making sure that this covers your overall theme, this is probably one of the crucial parts about the folio's making sure everything fits and is in place with the other photographs, the colors on panel 2 are more vibrant than panel one however panel 1 is simple but effective and works with the theme.

17/10/18

Next I have started to put different ripped up photographs together as I feel they work together in a very effective way and makes the viewer feel more interested in what they are looking at, some of these photographs I have used very similar pictures but tried to make them look like one, or look like something else is in that place. Here are some examples

Most of these are very simple but effective and show an insight into future development in photography, I feel that I have learned so much this year with the ability to work productively on the macs and develop more skills in things such as Photoshop and photomosh a glitching website that allows you to change layout of the Photos and creates and more interesting look to the final finish. However the one in the top right is a bit of a collage of all the photographs around it, I started to rip small pieces of each photo and placed it on the picture. I think that the ripped piece in the middle looks like it belongs to it.

8/11/18

Throughout the year I have worked incredibly hard to make my final portfolio as perfect as I could, along the way I came up against many challenges such as getting used to using the macs, this was a challenge in itself as I never liked using the computers or the many downfalls. Mrs. Clemence had many amazing ideas to take the images to a new level and creating spectacular Photographs. But I am glad to say that I have finished my board for the year and I am proud of my achievements

Final result of my board

for the many times I harassed Mrs Clemence to help me with my work or the times that I just felt like giving up I am proud of what I have achieved and I am sure my grandfather will be to.

At the start of the year I did a brainstorm of on my iwi to get some background. This was very exciting as I didn't really know much about my iwi. I found out many different things about Tuhoe (Nga tamariki o te kohu Children of the mist) and was ready to learn more.

later on in the year I started to think of ideas for my board but the one that stood out the most was to do something to do with my grandfather and his background. My grandfather was a hard working mad and had a passion for shearing. As it was almost halfway into term 2 I needed to sort out ideas and drafts for my art work

I wanted to create something to show my grandfather's shearing background but to also show the close connection I had with my grandfather which you can see in one of the drafts a male side on figure and a female figure but something divide them, I have dome this as I wanted to show that the divide represents not seeing him. This took so much out of our family and the thought of not seeing was heartbreaking. Similar to the other draft I combined his shearing background with the two side on faces which i think work incredibly well.

I then began doing dry points this included a close up of an eye and a greenstone

The hardest part was probably making the stencil for the dry point, I did this by using a sharp nail/screwdriver and used it to slightly scratch the surface of the plastic. After I had finished that i got all my equipment required to make the print this included ink, 3 cotton buds, water strength paper, a bit of cloth in the material of net curtains and some cardboard (to use like a scraper) . I started by warming the ink up so it was easier to work with i then used the cardboard to spread the ink over the stencil. with the net curtain I press slightly and moved in  figure of eight motion until most of the ink was off, with the cotton buds I wiped away any excess ink in the areas it wasn't needed. I wet the water strength paper but not so it was soaking after that I dried the paper a little and used the press to push down on the print.

This was the final result of all of the prints and I have to say they turned out incredibly well and I think the colors i have used has reflected back to my board as I used these colors very often throughout all my painting

I have used My grandfathers name (George Rongotoa ) and grandmothers name (Eveline Muldoon) to show that this is pretty much were it all started they were soul mates even through the ups and downs they truly loved each other they had 3 beautiful kid Joan Toa Arlene Toa and Tahae Toa and as they grew up they had there own kids, from there our family was complete and nothing was coming between us. Until koro passed away.

I have used the same side on faces again in this one but i have also used a woman figure (to represent my self) in the background I have tried to make it look like wood to try a combined the shearing shed. To make this painting stand out even more I added some combs down the middle not only to represent shearing but to show the divide that is between us.

This one is slightly similar with the side on face and the comb but instead of the face being white i have added blue and white to try get the look of the sky with clouds.

All of the ones with the woman in it i wanted to link it back to the first painting with the horizontal row of 3 woman and a vertical row of 3 woman in this one i have used different things from all of my painting and added into one with the eye, the wood and the moko.

The individual woman have their own place in the paintings and I think it was a great touch to add to my board I used a variety of different colors and tone

This painting was one of my favorite piece's and younger version of my grandfather shearing a sheep and the older version like he is looking back on what life use to be like the hard working man he use to be

So after many long months weeks and hours of work I can say I am very proud of what I have accomplished. There were so many times I felt like giving up and other times when I did give up but Mrs Clemence was a great support and I wouldn't of done this amazing board. It wasn't exactly as I planned but the outcome was amazing

The Pearl-John Steinbeck
Published in 1947

Kino an improvised but also brave native who makes a living diving for pearls off the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. Kino lives with his wife Juana and his son Coyotito, who unfortunately gets stung by a scorpion within the first few pages of the book, his mother then calls for the doctor but their race and poverty work against them. The doctor would not treat Coyotito so Kino went out with his wife and baby pearl diving in the hopes of hitting the jackpot. Kino finally found the big pearl and at the same time Coyotito mysteriously heals himself.

word soon travel led through the town that Kino had hit the mother lode and dollar signs immediately start running through everyone's brains as they think they all think about how to get in on Kino's new- found wealth. After the doctor had heard the word he made his sincere apologies for being a racist jerk, he then goes to heal Coyotito but actually just ends up poisoning him and then and then cures him in a course of a few hours. With the intentions of finding the hidden pearl (but perilously when Kino had found it he buried it underground so that no one could find it.) Kino awakes in the middle of the night to find an intruder trying to steal his pearls the intruder then smashes Kino on the head before leaving. His wife calls the nurse and she insist that the pearl is pure evil and they better get rid of it, but Kino refuses.

The next day Kino goes to sell the pearl with many people eagerly watching over his shoulder but unfortunately people were offering him more than a third of what the pearl was worth, he decides to forget the buyers offers and goes straight to the capital. Kino is a home person so going to the north island was kind of a big deal Juana again tries to stop him, but Kino refuses to listen to her so Juana is helpless, but is she? Kino wakes up in  the middle of the night to find his find about 2 seconds away from chucking the pearl in the ocean. Kino then resorts in using his fist and starts beating his wife up. as Kino makes his way back to the house someone attacks him and their hut goes up in flame, Kino kills his attacker and he and his wife had to watch their hut burn down.

As the couple hit the road the next night they discover that trackers are on their tail. In a chase sequence. Kino tries to hide his family in the mountains as the trackers pursue them. Finally they rest in some cave above a little stream. The trackers stop deciding it is time for some action. Kino tells Juana to keep the baby quiet and makes his way down to the trackers. As he is about to attack he hear Coyotito cries out one of the men pulls out a rifle, just as he shoots in the babies direct Kino pulls a chuck Norris on the trackers and kills all three of them. Victory was his but no it wasn't as he heard a cry of death, coming from the cave. Everybody remembered the families sad return, as they walk into the town Kino and his wife are full of despair. Juana carries a bloody blanket with the remains of their son ( whose head was blown off in the rifle incident) and the couple walks down to the beach. Kino flings the pearl out to the sea and it disappears.

while reading this novel it really makes me angry when people judge others because of their color or that they don.t have much money which is so unfortunate because it happens to the best of people the ones that deserve it the most but when Kino had found the pearl he thought he was in luck, but he never knew that the whole time the pearl was making everything worse. I really enjoyed reading this book because it give me an understanding of just how unfair and cruel it was back in those days, and just how much money meant to people especially the ones that needed it the most.

My sisters keeper

My sisters keeper in a 2004 novel written by Jodi Picoult it tells a story of 9 year old Anna who sues her parents for medical emancipation. When she is forced to donate a kidney to her sister Kate, who is dying from Leukemia. This story takes place in Rhode island  in 2004, Anna Fitzgerald's older sister Kate suffers from a blood and bone marrow cancer (acute promyelocytic leukemia.) Anna was born to save her sister as her older brother wasn't a match Anna was the one to save Kate  at first this was successful but continued to spread through Kate's body as  she got older .

Anna was always willing to give things up for Kate, but when she turned 13 she is told she has to donate one of her kidneys due to Kate's kidney failure. Anna petitions for medial emancipation with the help of  Campbell Alexandra, so she will be able to make hr own decisions regarding her medical treatment and the donation of her kidney. This is done on the advice of Julia Romano whose job is to decide what would be better for Anna, Meanwhile Jesse Kate's brother who has spent most of his life being ignore in favor of his ill sister Kate and spends most of his time setting things on fire in abandoned buildings with homemade explosives and using illegal drugs. During the trial it is revealed that Kate originally told Anna to sue for emancipation because Kate didn't want Anna to give her kidney up as Kate was ready to die. but their mum Sara didn't seem to understand why Kate would give up so easy and not want the kidney because Kate already know he is ready to die, the judge rules in Anna's favor and grants Campbell medical power of attorney.

As a teenager this makes me sad to think that her parents only had Anna to save Kate, as Jesse wasn't a match. several times Anna would be pinched and poked for many years until she can finally stand up for herself and to have a say in what goes on with her body without her mum telling her otherwise, for example when Anna was younger many doctors would hold Anna down to get what they needed for Kate until Anna realized she no longer wanted to continue. At the same time i know that Sara only did what she could in order to make sure Kate was healthy and alive but with Sara doing this she never really had a proper relationship with Jesse for example as Jesse got older he became more vulnerable and sensitive as most of the attention was on Kate, which is why he was never home and doing illegal stuff with his friends, as Kate was the their main priority

The Help/Novel

The help in a 2009 novel by American author Kathryn Stockett. The story is about African Americans working i white households in Jackson Mississippi during the early 1960s. This novel was Stocketts first book which took her 5 years to write and was rejected over 60 times until someone accepted it. has since been published in over 35 countries in the world and in three different languages. in August 2011 over seven million copies were sold and spent over 100 week on the NY time best selling list.

This movie is set in the early 1960s Jackson Mississippi told from 3 peoples perspective Aibileen Clark, Minny Jackson and Eugenia "Skeeter." Aibileen was a maid who clean and looks after children  he first job since her son died from an accident on the job, and works in a white household where she looks after their toddler Mae Mobley. Minny was Aibileen friend who often tells her employees about what she thought, this resulted in her being fired 19 times. Skeeter is the daughter of a white family who live on a cotton farm just outside of Jackson Mississippi. skeeter just graduated from the university of Mississippi and wanted to become a writer. Skeeter was always curious of Constantine's disappearance, her maid that brought Skeeter up and cared for her. Skeeter never believed she would leave just like that no goodbye nothing, her mum would always tell her that the maid quit and went to go live with family in Chicago. Skeeter finally found out the truth about Constantine's disappearance eventually her mum told her that she fired her because she no longer wanted her to work there.

Skeeter then gains the trust of Aibileen through a friendship which develops when Aibileen helps Skeeter write a household column tip for the local news papers. Skeet agreed as it would help her get closer to becoming a writer. The Harper and row that asked for the household column tips eventually started paying Aibileen for her time. when Aibileen and minny finally agreed to tell their stories, they are both unable to get other black woman to tell their stories too. Skeeter researches the rights the the black woman have and dont have in Mississippi.Yule may is then arrested from stealing a ring from Hilly's home to pay for her two sons to go the college until Hilly refused.the other maid decided that they were willing to take a chance with their jobs and their safety, and join the book project.Together they wrote a book about their experiences as the 'help' to the white woman of Jackson Mississippi. not all of the stories were all negative some beautiful and generous, loving and kind events, while others are cruel and even brutal.

As a teenager this made me feel quite upset and angry that the white people would treat the black people the way they did in those days it just shows how cold hearted and selfish those people were and that all they care about is themselves for example blacks had separate toilets separate neighborhoods and weren't allowed to eat at the same table as the white people.

Blacks had the same equal rights as the whites did. for example Aibileen and Minny decided if they voiced their opinion about how they got treated and felt about they way they got talked to by the white people. Blacks should be able to have flash houses with the whites cooking, cleaning and caring for their kids, for example blacks had full responsibility for cook cleaning and caring for the younger children while the white people went out for lunch while withe whites would be out doing what ever the could do to fill in the time, as a result of constantine taking care of skeeter when she was younger felt that she was the one that brought her up not her mum. in this movie i don't think that the whites realized if they put their feet in their shoes they wouldn't like it. for example when Aibileen got accused for stealing some silver kitchenware she was instantly fired from her job and never returned to work for them again

Title: Grenfell tower fire
Author: Lindsay Maizland
Text type: Article
Date finished: 23/6/17

This is an article about the Grenfell tower and how deadly this fire was for the people of London. On the 14 of June a devastating fire broke out just after midnight in the tall building in London. This building wasn't small it was 24 stories high and approximately 600 people were staying in the building at this time. As this fire rapidly spread people were in desperate need of getting out of the building before it was too late. Some people were so desperate to get out they jump out their windows, while the other people were stuck in the building screaming for help. Emergency services were quick to scene and hundreds of firefighters and 45 fire engines were involved in attempt to try and put this deadly fire out. Many firefighters going to the higher floors first and making there way down to try and control the fire. Many people were severely injured in the fire. 17 were confirmed to be in critical condition and 74 people to be in 5 hospital across London.

On the 16th of June 2017 they declared that the building was unsafe. They said that the fire was caused by a faulty fridge on the 4th floor. The builders recently added cladding to the building which caused the fire to spread more rapidly throughout the building. Many people got out before the fire had got to them. People were desperately trying to find their loved ones. Those unfortunate ones that were told to stay in their rooms until they got the all clear, were screaming and yelling. The people of the town said that they could hear the residents screaming “HELP PLEASE HELP US.”  One lady was very determined to save her baby she yelled out “please just catch my baby please.” She wrapped the baby tight in a blanket and threw the baby from the 9th floor of the building. A kind man stepped forward and caught the baby just in time.

This tragic event could've easily been avoided if they just had added the sprinklers for an extra $9000. This fire would of never took the lives of those innocent people. The government knew that the residents were at risk but they didn't think it was enough. Many residents were demanding answers. Many people said that some of the fire alarms never went off when the fire had broken out. Most people being alarmed by all the other residents screaming and knocking on doors. Others said they had heard the alarm sound and the sight of the smoke. Many people ignored the "stay put" advice that was given, and because those people ignored that advice they were the ones that survived the blaze.

Personally this made me feel angry because they could have avoided this whole situation if they just added the sprinklers to the building for and extra $9000 if that was the case this would of never happened and those innocent people wouldn't of died. for example in this article they suggested putting the sprinklers in but said it was to much extra money to pay as they had all ready paid heaps of money on the cladding on the building. As i read through this article i felt sorry for those ones stuck in the building with no way out, to think that many families were in that building at the time of the blaze and many of them unable to escape. For example the lady and her baby their was no way out for them no where to go so she took matters into her own hands just to insure her baby was safe.
